Our Mission
We have a three-part mission:
- Protecting Natural Areas
- Promoting Eco-Friendly Living
- Providing Environmental Education
To achieve our mission we:
- Work with the Port Washington School District to enhance and leverage the Guggenheim School Preserve’s environmental and educational value.
- Sponsor educational events, such as nature walks.
- Participate in community events, such as clean ups and removal of invasive plants.
- Work with teachers to create environment-based learning programs in conformance with New York State science curriculum.
- Established an advisory board of recognized experts in botany, ecology and ornithology.
PWGreen is involved in a number of events, including the following:
- Established a program with the Schreiber AP Environmental Science class doing advanced scientific studies at the Guggenheim School Preserve.
- Sponsors an annual Environmental Science Award and Scholarship for a graduating Schreiber High School Senior.
- Established a 4th Grade program for Port’s elementary school students using the Guggenheim School Preserve and Sands Point Preserve as outdoor classrooms, covering biology, ecology, and geology.
